Tough Gun Law = More Illegal Guns

I just got a press release from Mayor Jennings regarding a project by Mayors against illegal guns. A quick look, made me sad....the NRA is right...and I hate that they are.

Throughout the mayor's press release we hear about how strong the New York gun laws are imposing 10 out of the 10 gun laws across the country on our gun toting public. New York has one of the lowest, if not THE lowest gun export rate in the Country at 2.6 guns per 100,000 people. Now, that made me wonder...what do I care about how many guns are leaving the State. What I wanted to know is how many illegal guns are being trafficked into the State.

Nowhere, in the Mayor's press release was the word "import" uttered. I know you're wondering why that is so here ya go. Because, New York has a VERY high rate, if not the highest import rate for illegal guns in the Country. I'm not a gun lover so I just hate when the NRA is proven right. Tough gun laws dramatically increase the importation of illegal guns.

The portion of New York guns coming from other states is 66.5% (the national average is 29.8%), possibly the highest in the country. Compare this to Texas' 18.4% with 0 out of 10 gun laws in place. I should remind you that a Texan with a gun is like an Italian with a glass of wine...they respect it and they don't need any law governing that respect. If you're wondering, this is where New York's guns are coming from:

Virginia - 443
Georgia - 407
Florida - 391
Pennsylvania - 364
North Carolina - 326

New York is importing 3607 illegal guns and exporting only 517. This doesn't indicate that our tough gun laws are working...it indicates that they are NOT working.
